Myra’s guide to The RVT May Day weekend

There’s a glittering selection of treats on offer at The Royal Vauxhall Tavern this Bank Holiday weekend and at the very apex on Sunday, is star of  screen and stage, the northern songbird, Myra DuBois at the 12 hour extended party. We asked Myra if she would cast her experienced eye over what else is on offer for the May Day weekend at The RVT.

Drag Idol Heat Two

Thursday 2 May, 7pm to midnight

“Now I haven’t got this one marked in my social calendar, but if the hunt for London’s next cabaret sensation sounds like something you’d enjoy, why not? The winner of Drab Idle will eventually do a ten minute spot at the Clapham Street Party in June, so catch them now before that level of fame goes to their head.”

The Lipsinkers

Friday 3 May, 9pm to 4am

“They’ve had more line-up changes than the Sugababes and I couldn’t tell you who’s in the current incarnation, but they’re very talented vocalists that sound uncannily like any artist they turn their talents to, and all without a microphone! Must be seen to be believed!”

Saturday 4 May, 9pm to 4am

“Time Out will tell you that it’s where gays in their 30s go to dance. I don’t know when Time Out last updated their copy, but if you want to see a 50 year old gyrating to Robyn, this is the club night for you! Someone usually pulls something out of their fanny on stage too. Not to be missed!”

Queen of Clubs with Myra DuBois

Sunday 5 May, 3pm to 3am

“A theatrical tour-de-force by a living legend. An intimate hour with a true icon for our times; it’s me, Myra DuBois, in a concert presentation of your favourite songs plus witty repartee in-between. You’re welcome.”

Beefmince Tea Dance

Bank Holiday Monday, 4pm to 10.30pm

“Goodness me, are you still going? Connect with the other Bank Holiday dregs in this drip-tray of a Tea Dance. Weekend leftovers grooving around to a soundtrack by the team that brought you BEEFMINCE. At least run a flannel round yourself before going, won’t you?”
