Me, myself and I: Sam from Prowler Red

Sam is the Store Manager at Prowler RED in Soho, loves playing on his PS4, would like to party in the 90s and wishes we had more thoughtful gays like Stephen Fry.

Where are you from originally?

I’m from just outside Belfast, Northern Ireland, and as you can imagine there’s not much going on in the countryside.

And where do you live now?

I’ve lived in Soho for the past few years; it’s noisy and overpriced BUT it means everything I need is on my doorstep.

What do you love about London and why?

I guess coming from a substantially smaller city the sheer size of London appeals to me; plus it’s a well known fact that the bigger the city the less fucks people give about how you live your life.

What was the first gay venue you visited?

Ha. I believe it was Escape on Brewer Street. It was pure trash, but I loved it, I wish that was still there.

What is your role at Prowler?

My role within Prowler is the Store Manager of Prowler RED; which means I look after everything you see as a customer when you come in; what we sell, how it looks, the whole vibe. Since we launched in July it’s been more successful than I could have hoped for and we have lots planned for 2019.

What was the last theatre show you saw,  where, and what did you think of it?

I actually went to my first theatre show about six weeks ago (I know, bad gay) and it was The Book of Mormon. I loved it; it’s two hours of flexible effeminate twinks, what’s not to like?

What is your guilty pleasure and why?

Contrary to popular belief, I really like just chilling out in bed on a day off and playing Overwatch on PS4. Not that exciting but those who play it will know it’s kinda hard to put down.

Biggest extravagance?

I’d say my leather/rubber collection. Fetish gear isn’t the cheapest thing in the world but paying that little bit extra for quality stuff makes all the difference

Best gift you’ve ever received and why?

Ooh that’s a tough one. I’m really hard to buy for because if I ever want something I’ll just buy it myself and then when it comes to buying me things there’s nothing I need.

If you could go back in time which year would you choose and why?

I grew up as a child in the 90’s, but I think I’d like to have been 18 during that period so I could go party. I feel like, London especially, is having its nightlife murdered and none of our elected officials are doing anything to stop it.

What’s the best party you’ve ever been to and what made it so good?

If it was that good of a party I can’t remember it.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

It’s not about what you know, it’s about how much people think you know.

Who is your LGBT+ hero and why?

I guess Stephen Fry; his brand of liberalism is in short supply now and we could do with more thoughtful, logical gays like him.

Who are the most entertaining people you follow on social media and why?

Oh god, you *do  not* want to see my timeline. It’s just dick, politics and cats.

What is one thing you wish you knew when you were younger?

Not everyone has the common courtesy to douche.

Sam is the manager at Prowler RED, 50 Old Compton St, Soho, W1
