Drag Idol Reporter: The Grand Final Friday 30th June
After months of heats in 20 venues across the UK and following four thrilling semi-finals, Drag Idol 2017 came to its exciting climax.
Last Friday at a packed Two Brewers the four finalists – Gingzilla from Her Upstairs, Tracy Barlow representing the RVT, Ginny Lemon from Eden in Birmingham and Shania Pain the champ from OMG in Sheffield – fought it out to be crowned this year’s Drag Idol champ. Our girls had to impress not only the audience but the five judges too: Titti La Camp, one of the founders of the contest, last year’s winner Vileda Moppe, Boyz own Dave Cross, The Duchess, owner of the George and Dragon and cabaret legend Miss Hope Springs.
It was clear from the start that there was disagreement between the judges, and like all good talent shows there were boos as well as cheers. After much deliberation it came down to a vote and finally Drag Idol hosts CK, aka Crystal and Kelly, announced the winner as Tracy Barlow representing the RVT, to a huge roar from the Two Brewers crowd. It was a brilliant night with all four acts giving their best. A great night of exciting and new cabaret stars for our scene.
